Hundreds go to 'confession' with Donegal great Donal Reid

The Abbey Hotel, home to the 1992 All Ireland winning Donegal team and to so many Donegal teams returning in triumph or defeat over the years, hosted a unique book launch tonight for former 1992 all Ireland winner, Donal Reid.

Reid, who writes a hugely popular weekly column for the Donegal Democrat, assured his audience of more than 300, that the book, 'Confessions of a Gaelic footballer" was very much written by himself.

"No ghost writers here, I'm afraid of ghosts," he jested. He stressed that any monies raised by the book would go to Pieta House and he thanked all those people, many of them in the audience, who had played any part in his life's journey - so far.

While Donal signed copies of his book, for well over an hour, football friends and colleagues from his own time, from football eras before he ever kicked a ball and indeed from the victorious 2012 team where Donal was part of the backroom team, all traded stories and memories of the man from Killygordon. The word "character" and "a one off" were repeated more than once as those who shared the road with him tried to sum him up. 

The book, beautifully produced with a hard back cover, is much more than a football book written by a footballer. \in it Reid writes about the many changes in his life, from early days at school right through to his life changing experiences in South Africa and his many trips to Medjugorje.

The book is dedicated to his wife Maura and his daughters Donna and Roisin. All proceeds from the sale of the publication will go towards Pieta House.
