The people of Ballintra, Laghey and surrounding areas turned out in force on Saturday to support a Coffee Morning in memory of a very special woman.

The family and friends of the late Shirley Walsh organised the event, which also included a charity sale and raffle in aid of the North West Hospice.

They wanted to say Thank You for all the wonderful care that Shirley received at the hospice in the last days of her illness last March.

Crowds flocked to Shirley's home all day, where they were welcomed by her husband Jim, other family members and close friends.

When one lady, who was enjoying a cuppa and a homebake, was asked, "Were you a friend of Shirley's?", she replied, "I think everyone was" - a fitting tribute indeed to a lady who brought so much joy to so many.
