Some of the Allingham letters.
A forthcoming auction of rare literary, historic and artistic works will feature three lots of very special interest to the people of Donegal.
Fonsie Meely are holding their annual Christmas auction at the Gresham Hotel in Dublin on December 13.
A letter written by the late playwright Brian Friel at his Greencastle home in 1974 outlines his views of the state of Irish theatre and the case for a new departure. It's notable that he went on to become a co-founder of Field Day Theatre Company in 1980 and a Tony Award winner.
The second lot contains 40 documents, including letters written by William Allingham of Ballyshannon, father of the famous poet, to one of his other sons, John, in Dublin. The letters (1829-47 and 1865) provide an unusual and fascinating insight into the relationship between a father and son involved in trade at this significant period, before and during the Great Famine.
The third lot is an original pencil drawing, by Harry Clarke, for statined class windows, for the Stations of the Cross Windows at St Patrick's Basilica, Lough Derg.
