Donegal ETB has appointed a new Adult Guidance Counsellor to its Further Education and Training (FET) Service to work with clients interested in returning to education following a period of unemployment.
Elena Gill will be based in Donegal ETB’s Adult Learner Guidance Service, 2nd Floor, McKendrick Place, Port Road, Letterkenny. However, her role will see work within the Raphoe, Carrigans and St Johnston areas also.
Prior to joining Donegal ETB, Elena worked in the Northern Ireland Careers Service, a government service, for over ten years, providing impartial careers information, advice and guidance to young people and adults. The aim was to help young people and adults make informed choices about their future career paths. As such Elena has an excellent understanding of the needs of adults young and old in terms of providing clear, in-depth and relevant career guidance information.
Speaking about her new appointment, Elena said, ‘'I am really looking forward to working with the people of Donegal to help support, guide and empower them move forward. I will endeavor to provide a professional and confidential service that will enable individuals to explore educational, career and life choices and to provide them with the appropriate information and support."
Donegal ETB's Adult Learner Guidance Service aims to support adults to make the right decisions about returning to education and training and to help them make those decisions within the context of their wider life. The service supported almost 1,000 adults in 2017.
Donegal ETB’s Director of Further Education and Training (FET) Cróna Gallagher said, “Our Adult Learner Guidance Service is just one of our many Further Education and Training (FET) programmes and services and has an important contribution to make to our FET service delivery. I’m delighted Elena will be supporting the delivery of the service in the Letterkenny and East Donegal areas.”
Adult Learner Guidance Service Coordinator Deirdre McColgan said, ‘We very much welcome Elena’s appointment to our Service. I know the skills she brings will be invaluable in helping us support our clients to make the right decisions about returning to education or training.’
Elena can be contacted at 074 91 78088.
