Fianna Fáil candidate Anthony Molloy
Fianna Fáil local election candidate in the Glenties electoral area Anthony Molloy has called on the Government to do more to ensure the future continuation and increase in funding for the home help programme.
The Ardara-based candidate says the service is vital to the health service.
"One of the great success stories of the Irish health service has been the home help programme, without doubt the wonderful people working as home helps are extending the lives of so many elderly people in every town, village and rural area in our county.
"Their contribution cannot be quantified or questioned but many of our home helps are under time constraints which directly impacts the time they spend helping the patients. The government needs to loosen the red tape around time spent with patients. Home helps are keeping our already overcrowd hospitals from overflowing, they are a vital cog in the health system and to that end need the pay and respect they deserve," he said.
