Over 500 teenagers under the age of 18 were arrested over a five year period, from 2017 to 2021, in the Donegal division, according to data supplied to Deputy Michael Healy Rae.
Statistics compiled by the garda authorities which sets out the number of persons under 18 years associated with prisoner logs, show 544 teenagers were arrested in the Donegal division over the five-year period.
An Garda Síochána found that approximately 29% of all arrests over this 5-year period related to Public Order Offences, 19% related to Theft Offences and 7% related to Drugs Offences.
The statistics for the Donegal division show that in 2017, 93 were arrested, in 2018, 89 were arrested, in 2019, 179 were arrested, in 2020, 82 were arrested and last year, in 2021, 101 were arrested.
The information was compiled following a search of the PULSE database for prisoner logs associated with persons under the age of 18 years old at time of arrest.
