Highlight safe Killgordon picnic area says councillor

Burn Rock picnic area, Killygordon

An appeal for Donegal County Council to better highlight a picnic area outside Killygordon was made at the last meeting of the Lifford-Stranorlar Municipal District.

Cllr Patrick McGowan said the Burn Rock picnic area was probably one of the best of its kind in the county.

"It's well looked after, has tables and chairs, is very neat and has a great pull-in area but no advance signs to let drivers know it is there. There should be signs at St Joseph's Community Hospital in Stranorlar and in Liscooley to let people know this picnic area is ahead."

He added he often saw people on this road pulling in at farmers' gates and at driveways having cups of tea and on this road that presented a danger. It is one of the worst narrow twisted national primary roads in the county.

"People on long journeys pull in yet they don't realise there is a  very good picnic area just down the road. I'm sure the Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) would be more than helpful if approached," he said.

Council engineer Claire McGeever told the meeting said the National Roads Office told the council there will be advance notice of the picnic area going up.
