Traffic diversions commence during water mains replacement in Clonmany

Water mains bursts have plagued homes, farms and businesses in Clonmany

Uisce Éireann will begin works this month to replace more than 2.5km of old water mains along the R238/L1191 from Meendoran Bridge to Ballyliffin Junction in Clonmany.
Temporary road closures will be in place along the L1191 from 7 July to 15 August with traffic diverted during these periods. Local and emergency access will be maintained at all times.
Farrans Construction is carrying out the works on behalf of Uisce Éireann, with the project expected to be complete by early 2026.

Uisce Éireann says this is a ‘significant investment’ and the new modern pipes will deliver a more reliable water supply.
Homes, farms and businesses in the Clonmany area have suffered repeated water outages arising from bursts on its local mains network.
“This section of water main in Clonmany and Meendoran was prioritised for investment and replacement due to its age and condition,” Uisce Éireann’s programme manager Patricia Lowry said. “These improvements to the water network are critical and we are delighted to progress these upgrades for the local community, as they will strengthen the water network for generations to come. This work will bring a range of benefits for our customers in the area including reliability of supply, fewer bursts and less leakage.”

Uisce Éireann says this upgrade at Clonmany is part of its national leakage reduction programme which prioritises investment where it is needed most.
