Three people brought to safety by Lough Swilly RNLI
The Inishowen RNLI branch has rescued three people after their boat developed mechanical problems on Lough Swilly.
The incident unfolded last Thursday night, July 10th, at 09.42pm after the Lough Swilly RNLI were alerted by Malin Head Coast Guard to assist the three people onboard after their small boat had got into difficulty on the lough.
The Atlantic 85 Inshore Lifeboat was swiftly launched, and the crew made their way to the vessel. After arriving on the scene, the volunteer crew decided to set up a tow and take the boat to the safety of Fahan Marina.

Following the rescue, the volunteer crew returned to Ned's Point, refuelled and made ready for service again.
This was the second callout for Lough Swilly RNLI in 48 hours on the lough after they were also tasked to assist a yacht in difficulty last Tuesday night at approximately the same time. Upon arrival at the scene, the yacht was found to be moving again and didn't require their assistance to get sailing.
A spokesperson for Lough Swilly is advising the public to always be water safety conscious. “Remember if you're in difficulty in or on the water or see someone in trouble, dial 999 or 112 and ask for the Coast Guard.”
