Investigation into unhealthy Crana River fish
An investigation is underway after several salmon have become ill in Buncrana.
Several people have reported the sickly looking fish on the Crana River to Inland Fisheries Ireland (IFI). It is expected that the salmon will be taken out of the water and taken to a laboratory to undergo tests to determine the exact cause of their illness.
A spokesperson for IFI has confirmed that they were contacted by some concerned members of the public and are now investigating the unhealthy fish. "Inland Fisheries Ireland(IFI) has received a report about a small number of fish at the Crana River.
"IFI is following up on this report and seeking more information."

Last January, a pollution incident occurred on the Crana River after water and sediments at a construction site had leaked into the river, causing the water to turn brown. The spillage was quickly cleaned up, and no fish were harmed in the incident.
This is the eighth year since 2017 that the Crana has been under strict catch and release orders. The harvesting of salmon has only been allowed once in the last nine years, in 2023.
