Crews have been working on the fault since 5am this morning, and works are scheduled to take place until 10pm tonight before supply is restored to everywhere south of Fahan to Newtowncunningham

South Inishowen homes and businesses have been left without water today after the truck supplying water burst in Fahan this morning.

This means that everywhere south of Fahan, to Newtowncunningham, will be without water most of today.

Crews have been working on the fault since 5am this morning, and works are scheduled to take place until 10pm tonight before supply is restored to Inch Island, Fahan, Burt, Bridgend, Newtowncunningham, Drumhaggart, and surrounding areas.

The latest outage in South Inishowen follows three days of burst pipes in Tooban on Sunday, Monday, and yesterday.

Inishowen councillors are to meet with Uisce Eireann management in early September over ongoing burst pipes and water outages in the peninsula. South Inishowen Councillor Jack Murray said the timely meeting will give councillors the opportunity to “relay anger felt by people in the community.”

Councillor Murray said the water outages are the result of a lack of investment in “our community infrastructure compounded with a stretched workforce to respond to the problems that inevitably arise.”

Commenting on the trunk main supplying South Inishowen, which burst this morning, the Sinn Féin Councillor said, “This is completely unacceptable. This area deserves proper investment in our water supply. Enough is enough.”

100% Redress Councillor Joy Beard echoed the comments of her fellow councillor and said these outages are now the “norm in Inishowen, and it is totally unacceptable. Water is not a privilege – it is a basic human right.”
