Shopping ‘Spraoi’ pops up with sustainable style in Carndonagh this weekend

Shopping ‘Spraoi’ pops up with sustainable style in Carndonagh this weekend

Isabelle Gubbins and Lucy Kavanagh helping out with 'Shopping Spraoi' earlier this year. The latest event takes place in Carn this Saturday, September 6.

Carndonagh will come alive with colour and creativity this weekend, as ‘Shopping Spraoi’ returns for a special pop-up event.

The sustainable fashion showcase takes place on Saturday, September 6 from 12-3pm at the Garden Centre, Moss Road (F93 A897).

The event is part of Spraoi agus Spórt’s circular economy hub, Síoraí, and offers young people a fun and affordable way to refresh their wardrobes while helping the planet.

Visitors can expect rails of pre-loved fashion, swap opportunities, live demonstrations, and plenty of inspiration for making more sustainable choices.

Project coordinator Aoibhín Nolan says it’s the third Shopping Spraoi event to date and is about community and creativity, as much as clothing.

“It’s a chance for young people to come together, try something new, and see how exciting sustainable fashion can be. Shopping Spraoi makes it easy to look good, feel good and do good – all at the same time.”

This latest pop-up – the second one this year so far – also includes hands-on repair and upcycling tips, alongside live music to keep the energy buzzing. Whether you’re swapping, shopping, or just curious about sustainability, there will be something for everyone.

Funded by the Irish Youth Foundation and the Coca-Cola Thank You Fund, Shopping Spraoi is part of a wider mission to reduce waste, support local creativity, and keep resources in use for longer.

“Events like this show that small actions can make a big difference,” explains Aoibhín. “By swapping instead of buying new, we’re extending the life of clothes and cutting down on waste.”
