Musicians Patsy and Hugh P to perform an evening of song and chat at Greencastle

Hugh P Doherty and Patsy Cavanagh are coming together for a special concert on October 28.

Two much-loved veterans of the Inishowen music scene are ‘on the road again’ – much like the subject of Willie Nelson’s seminal hit.

Patsy Cavanagh and Hugh P Doherty are planning an evening of song and reminiscence in the Cairn Theatre in Greencastle on Tuesday, October 28.

The pair and their music have endured for many decades.

Greencastle’s Cavanagh is Inishowen songwriting royalty, having penned the ‘Home to Donegal’ anthem for the county, while Doherty, from Buncrana, was recently awarded for his services to music along with his daughter Maria at a ceremony in Holland.

“We have both managed to make our small mark on the local music scene. We played together in the early 90s, and as they say, we tramped the roads of Ireland at all hours of the night,” says Cavanagh, who has been running regular shows at the Cairn for more than a quarter of a century.

Hugh is known for his gospel songs, and Patsy more so for his folk music. The October 28 night will feature a mixture of both and more – and, who knows, it could be the start of a new musical chapter for both men once again.

“We're looking forward to a pleasant mix of music on the night, and already we have great interest – and you never know, we could take to the road again!” smiles Cavanagh.
