Community development leaders from Inishowen were at the forefront of a national conference that united government representatives, local development companies and sector partners from across Ireland.

The inaugural Local Development Companies Network Summit 2030 took place in Ballina, on October 30–31, marking a significant milestone for community-led development.

Inishowen Development Partnership (IDP) joined representatives from all 49 Local Development Companies at the event, with Joint CEOs Andrew Ward and Shauna McClenaghan, along with team members Sinead McDaid and Denise McCool, sharing insights and experiences from the peninsula.

Their participation ensured that Inishowen’s voice was heard in shaping strategies for inclusive, resilient communities nationwide.

The summit focused on advancing inclusion, strengthening partnerships, and securing sustainable funding for vital local programmes.

Government Ministers Jerry Buttimer, Dara Calleary and Jennifer Murnane O’Connor addressed delegates, calling for innovation and investment in community-led development to ensure no one is left behind.

Joint CEO of IDP, Andrew Ward, highlighted the importance of collaboration.

“It was a privilege to attend the inaugural Summit and represent the vital work we do in Inishowen and across the region,” said Andrew.

“The event highlighted the power of community-led action in building an inclusive Ireland.”

Fellow Joint CEO Shauna McClenaghan emphasised how IDP remains committed to championing local needs and delivering innovative, inclusive programmes that empower communities and individuals to thrive.

“The Summit reinforced what we see every day on the ground – when communities are supported, resourced and listened to, they flourish,” added Shauna.

“For Inishowen, the benefits of this national dialogue are clear: stronger partnerships, new opportunities for funding, and a renewed focus on rural sustainability and social inclusion.”

IDP has been delivering programmes that empower individuals and families since 1996, and remains committed to championing local needs while driving innovation for the future.
