Gardai deploy stinger device after car fails to stop at checkpoint

Two people have been arrested after failing to stop at a garda checkpoint in Inishowen.

Gardaí from the Buncrana Roads Policing Unit and Buncrana Garda Station were conducting an Operation Thor checkpoint on a rural border road in the early hours of yesterday morning, November 9th, when a vehicle failed to stop as directed.

The driver failed to stop but instead drove the car through the checkpoint at speed. Gardai deployed their stinger device, and the driver brought their vehicle to an abrupt halt before their tyres were stung.

Subsequently, the driver was arrested on suspicion of drug driving after testing positive for cocaine. A passenger in the car was also found to be in possession of a small quantity of suspected cocaine.

Gardaí say that court proceedings will follow for both the driver and the passenger.
