Carndonagh woman accused of assaulting two female gardai faces Circuit Court date

The Book of Evidence was served on the young Carn woman at Buncrana District Court.

A young Carndonagh woman is accused of assaulting two female gardai and destroying a Garda radio while in custody.

Becky Diver, of Whin Park, Glentogher, Carndonagh, faces a Circuit Court date next year on two serious charges.

Garda Brandon Wilkie told Buncrana District Court how he served the Book of Evidence on the defendant’s solicitor Carrie Hegarty.

Ms Diver is accused of assaulting Garda Alison Hogan at Buncrana Garda Station on February 23, 2024, causing her harm contrary to Section 3 of the Non-Fatal Offences against the Person Act.

The 25-year-old Carn woman is also charged with a Section Two assault on Garda Deirdre Connolly at Buncrana Garda Station on February 14, 2024.

She is further charged with criminally damaging a Garda Tetra radio set, the property of the Chief Superintendent of Donegal, at Buncrana Garda Station on February 23, 2024. That charge is contrary to Section 2(1) of the Criminal Damage Act 1991.

Ms Diver is separately charged with dangerous driving contrary to Section 53 of the Road Traffic Act, following an alleged incident at Ballymacarry, Buncrana on February 14, 2024.

She also faces an intoxication charge under the Public Order Act.

Defence solicitor Hegarty told Judge Emile Daly that her client is considering going forward to Letterkenny Circuit Court on a signed guilty plea next year, and she sought an adjournment to “take further instructions”.

Judge Daly adjourned the case until January 8 “for the defendant to decide upon a signed plea”.

The defence made an application for Legal Aid for counsel’s opinion in relation to the signed plea agreement.

Judge Daly extended Legal Aid for one junior counsel [barrister] to represent Ms Diver.
