John McCarter from Buncrana is the current Donegal Person of the Year
The 2025 Donegal Person of the Year will be announced next month in Buncrana.
The Lake of Shadows Hotel in Buncrana- the home of last year’s Donegal Person of the Year, John McCarter- will play host to the event, the Donegal Association Dublin has confirmed. The announcement will be made at a public event on Saturday, February 7, at 7pm, and everyone is welcome to attend.
Each year, someone who has made a meaningful contribution to Donegal is honoured by the association. The title is currently held by John McCarter, with past winners including Noel Cunningham, the people of Creeslough, Jim McGuinness, Shay Given, Moya Brennan, Stephen McCahill, and Moya Doherty. Voting was rounded up in November.
Following the announcement last year for Donegal Person of the Year for 2024, John McCarter said he was “honoured” and surprised to be chosen for the prestigious award.
“None of the things I have done in my life regarding work or things in the community have been done for gratification, but it is nice to be recognised for having given a number of years in the community and for the good of the community,” Mr McCarter added.
