The graveyard at St Michael’s Church in Urris is one of those included in the project
The process of erecting graveyard maps in the Clonmany parish is to begin next month after a deadline for the submission of alterations passes.
Clonmany Genealogy and Heritage Group and Clonmany parish have been working on a joint project, aided by an intensive fundraising campaign, to complete a comprehensive graves survey across the three graveyards of the parish.
Draft grave index maps have been on display in St Mary’s Church, Clonmany and in St Michael’s Church, Urris in recent weeks.
Copies of these maps have also been available online, on the Irish Graveyard Surveyors website.
Alteration sheets, which are being used in correcting any errors in the graves index, are available in the two churches and on the graveyard surveyors website.

The deadline for submission of alteration sheets to the graveyard surveyors is midnight on Sunday, February 15.
“After this date, the graveyard maps will be produced and then erected in the three graveyards, and it will not be possible to correct any errors until the maps are renewed in three years,” a spokesperson for the project said.
People are encouraged to please check the maps for any errors or omissions immediately, and to record any corrections on the alteration sheets before forwarding them to the Irish Graveyard Surveyors. The sheets may be posted, or scanned and emailed, to the surveyors.
