This exhibition from Patrick Jude Clafferty explores where visual expression begins and how humans use marks to communicate

A new exhibition by Clonmany-based artist Patrick Jude Clafferty has opened at the Regional Cultural Centre, Letterkenny.

From the Cradle to the Cave opened in Gallery 2 on Saturday, January 24 and runs until Saturday, March 14.

This exhibition explores where visual expression begins and how humans use marks to communicate. Inspired by early cave drawings and children’s scribbles, Clafferty’s work looks at mark-making as something natural and instinctive. Rather than focusing on clear messages or words, the artworks highlight movement, repetition and the physical act of drawing.placeholder image

Originally from Dublin but now based in Clonmany, Patrick Jude Clafferty began working as a visual artist in 2016 after many years as a musician. He was a co-founder and songwriter with the Dublin band Mexican Pets. His background in music continues to influence his art, especially in its sense of rhythm, texture and flow.

His practice has developed from figurative painting to a more abstract and expressive style. From the Cradle to the Cave is his fifth solo exhibition and brings together work that reflects his artistic journey and growing confidence in this visual language.

The exhibition is open during normal gallery hours and forms part of the RCC’s ongoing programme supporting contemporary artists.

Admission is free and all are welcome.
