A remarkable total of €8,100 has been raised following this year’s New Year’s Day charity swim in Redcastle.

The event was held in memory of Redcastle postmistress Elizabeth Hannon, and the money raised has now been donated to Cancer Care West in her honour.

Elizabeth, who passed away in December 2024, was a much-loved figure in the village, where she had served in the Post Office for many years.

The annual swim saw a huge crowd brave the chilly waters of Lough Foyle to remember her, including Elizabeth’s husband, Michael Hannon, and son Seamus, who has since taken on the Post Office.
