An enthusiastic group from Moville Men's Shed recently completed a six-week cookery course, with the emphasis on how easy it is to eat more healthily.
This is the second course in recent years that members have taken part in, and all agreed that they had hugely benefited from the fantastic tuition they received from tutor Maureen Doherty.
Chair of Moville Men’s Shed, Brian Barr, explained how the men who took part had a variety of cooking abilities, as many of them live alone, while coming together for the course taught them new skills and brought them closer together as a group.
He said it was about doing something new, pushing past your comfort zone, and always ‘having the craic’.
Tutor Maureen brought the ingredients each week, and the men collectively agreed on what dishes they would prepare, carefully peeling, chopping, cooking, and most importantly, eating their dishes in group sessions afterwards.

The participants cooked a variety of different dishes, including soup, pancakes, risotto and much more. During every class, they also discussed the benefits of eating wholesome food without breaking the bank.
The Sláintecare Healthy Food Made Easy cookery course was facilitated by Inishowen Development Partnership Community Food and Nutrition Officer Niamh Britton, who presented the men with their certificates at the end of the six weeks.
Meanwhile, Moville Men’s Shed Chair Brian has urged other groups in Inishowen to avail of these courses through IDP, and he said the men are already preparing for an Air Fryer Cooking Course later this year.
