This coming weekend sees the return of the popular annual ‘Words by the Water’ literary evening of poetry, fiction, and memoir in Greencastle.

The evening, which will take place at Greencastle Community Centre on Saturday, March 21, is hosted by the Greencastle Writers Group.

Previous events have been well-attended with positive feedback, and everyone is welcome to come along this time too.

“The evenings give new and returning writers a chance to share their work in public, an opportunity that is rare. Each year, the pieces read out are printed in a publication. Again, this is a unique opportunity for local writers and poets,” explains David Simpson, coordinator of the event.

Copies of last year's publication will be on sale on the night.

David added: “We are excited about the writing this year. There will be a rich mix of pieces, including ones about local history and local places. Along with powerful fiction reflecting contemporary struggles. And for the first time, we have a short horror story. Something for everyone in the audience.”

This free event is held at Greencastle Community Centre on Saturday, March 21, beginning at 7.30pm. The writers' group has also invited two local visual artists to show their work, with paintings by George Gillespie and Rikki Louise van den Berg set to be on show.

Meanwhile, Greencastle Writers Group thanks the Inishowen Credit Union for its continued support.
