The much-anticipated Bank Restaurant is due to open this autumn in the former Bank of Ireland building

A judge has wished a new Moville restaurant the “very best of luck” after granting a licence allowing alcohol to be sold on the premises.

The Bank Restaurant is due to open this autumn in the former Bank of Ireland building in The Square, Moville, which was purchased by local couple Louise and Paul McElvaney five years ago.

The restaurant will be operated and run by award-winning head chef Sean Harrigan from Derry.

The successful submission was heard at Buncrana District Court, where solicitor Ciaran Haran said the application was for a restaurant certificate and a licence to sell alcohol on the premises.

He said it was a first-time application for a brand new premises in the centre of Moville.

Mr Harrigan, the nominated applicant and head chef, was called to give evidence and outlined his experience as a restaurant operator in Derry over the past 15 years, where he ran the multi-award-winning Sooty Olive restaurant.

He described The Bank, Moville as his new project.

Mr Harrigan told the court that he was familiar with the liquor licensing laws, including opening and closing times and the requirement to provide CCTV footage to Gardaí upon request.

He also said he was familiar with the age requirements surrounding the serving of alcohol and pledged that all staff would be prompted to ask younger customers for identification.

Solicitor Mr Haran told the court there was no Garda objection to the application.

Having heard the evidence, Judge Ciaran Liddy duly granted the licence and wished Mr Harrigan and the restaurant’s owners, who were also present in court, well for the future.

“The very best of luck on your endeavours. I hope it’s a success and I’m happy to grant the application,” Judge Liddy said.
