'Miracle no one was killed': Shocking incident of dangerous driving
Speeding VW Golf overtook a line of vehicles on a notoriously blind bend on the WRONG side of the road
Gardaí are investigating a shocking incident of dangerous driving on the main R238 road between Redcastle and Moville which could easily have resulted in multiple fatalities.
The incident happened between approximately 5.10pm and 5.15pm on Monday evening, September 7, as the road was busy with traffic.
Gardaí who were on patrol in the area observed a black Volkswagen Golf which was displaying two different registration plates, both of which are believed to be false.
Gardaí signalled for the driver to stop, but the Golf continued towards Moville and was driven in an extremely dangerous manner.
The car overtook a line of traffic at speed on the WRONG side of the road at Clar Corner, a notorious blackspot on the R238, where visibility is completely blind around a bend.
The Golf was then seen weaving in and out of traffic, creating an extremely dangerous situation for other motorists travelling on the busy road.
One driver who witnessed the incident described the manner of driving as terrifying and said it was a miracle that it did not result in a multiple fatal collision.
Gardaí are now appealing to motorists who were travelling along the R238 at the time and may have captured the incident or the vehicle on dashcam.
Anyone who travelled between Redcastle and Moville between 5pm and 5.30pm on Monday evening and has relevant dashcam footage is asked to make it available to Gardaí.
Gardaí are particularly keen to hear from motorists who may have captured the black Volkswagen Golf as it travelled towards Moville.
Anyone with information or footage is asked to contact Buncrana Garda Station on 07493 20540.
Gardaí are also appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident or has any other information which could assist their investigation to come forward.
