The Kings of the Kilburn High Road, a play which examines themes around emigration, is being staged by the Moville Drama Group in St Eugene’s Hall in Moville.

Written by Irish playwright Jimmy Murphy, it was first produced in 2000 and was later adapted into a film, Kings. The play is centred around a group of young Irish men who immigrated to London in the early 1970s.

The play is running from December 5  to December 9 and is produced and directed by Eamonn McLaughlin,  who also plays the role of Jap Kavanagh. James McDaid plays Maurteen Rogers, Vincent Treanor plays Shay Mulligen, Liam McCauley plays Joe Mullen and Seamus McGranaghan plays Git Miller.

Eamonn says he has always wanted to put the play on after seeing it more than 20 years ago.

He said: “It is a play about Emigration and there has been so much emigration in our area and so many people from around Inishowen went and lived and worked in the Kilburn area and can identify with the themes in the play.”

The Kings of the Kilburn High Road runs in St Eugene’s Hall, Moville, Tuesday, December 5 to Saturday, December 9  at 8pm each night with admission €10.

The themes explored in the play  mean it’s only suitable for an adult audience.
