The Fahan Health Centre serves the communities of Burnfoot, Inch Island, Tooban and Magherabeg
Councillor Jack Murray has written to HSE management to request the decision to relocate the nurse from the Fahan Health Centre to Buncrana be reversed.
Buncrana-based Murray said he has been contacted by several concerned constituents and said the issue will also be raised with Health Minister Stephen Donnelly.
“I've recently been contacted by concerned constituents who have been made aware of plans to relocate the nurse from Fahan Health Centre - effectively closing the service from public use,” Murray posted.
“This centre serves the communities of Burnfoot, Inch Island, Tooban, Magherabeg and Fahan - and many older people who simply cannot travel to Buncrana.
“Further, local home care staff regularly avail of this service to quickly obtain medical supplies for those in the vicinity. Forcing them to travel to Buncrana would stretch their time further, and would scale back the provision of care in the area.
“I have written to HSE management, appealing to them to reverse this decision. My colleague, Pádraig Mac Lochlainn TD has also committed to raising this with Health Minister Stephen Donnelly, while Gerry Mc Monagle will fight the decision as a member of the HSE Regional Health Forum.
“I would also appeal to everyone in the community, who wants to maintain this service, to email consumerservicesoffice.cho1@hse.ie and make your opinion known. We cannot allow the scaling back of such important services from our community without a fight.”
