Adrian McMyler has announced he is standing as an independent in the Buncrana local electoral area in June’s local elections.

The Buncrana man, who is known for his involvement with Buncrana’s Children’s Charity, said he was “humbled with the support” he has received in recent weeks when he was considering running.

His announcement comes after the decisions in recent weeks by veteran Buncrana councillors Rena Donaghey of Fianna Fáil and independent councillor Nicholas Crossan not to contest their seats.

“I understand politics is a very tough career, however, with my track record in community work since a young age, helping people all my life, it is clear that Donegal County Council needs a new independent candidate to help Buncrana and south Inishowen,” he said in a social media post announcing his intention to stand.

“I believe I am the local man able to prioritise people over party and will do my utmost best, and be honest, transparent and accountable and follow a dream I always wanted to do and run as a candidate in this year’s election.

Mr McMyler said he fully understands that people have a lot of issues facing them, adding: “I know politicians already elected have been working a lot with the public but all I ask you humbly is to please give me a chance, as a worker, a man who follows things through, a community advocate”.
