St Mary’s Church, Bocan, was built in 1805
A concert to help the fundraising for the refurbishment of St Mary’s Church, Bocan, is taking place in the church on June 30.
The Culdaff church’s refurbishment committee is holding the Ecumenical Songs of Praise concert to help fund the interior refurbishment of the church.
The church was built in 1805. In 1846, Rev James McDevitt enlarged the building and it is believed that is when the thatch was changed to a slated roof.
A spokesperson for the refurbishment committee said: “Many people have celebrated their Baptism, the sacraments of Holy Communion, Confirmation or their marriage ceremony in this church and others have very sadly been buried in this graveyard. St Mary’s is very special to us all in different ways and we feel it is vitally important to re-decorate the interior of this wonderful building.”
The ecumenical celebration of music takes place on Sunday, June 30 at 6pm. Tickets are available after each weekend Mass in the parochial hall opposite or from Breege Kearney on 087 233 0225.
