Buncrana Hearts were awarded their FAI Club Mark One Star Award from FAI Facilities Director Ger McDermott at a ceremony in Castle Park on Sunday.

The club had previously received the club mark award but this award is an upgrade.

“It means we have all the documentation in place and our coaches have all their badges.” chairperson John Adair told DonegalLive. “It shows we have a coaching pathway or plan in place.”

It also means the club has everything in place regarding safeguarding and by being awarded this it helps the club in accessing grants in the future.

Buncrana Hearts are one of three teams in Donegal to have this award and the only one in Inishowen. There are only 50 clubs in Ireland that have this award.

Also in attendance was Trevor Scanlon, the FAI Development Officer; Padraig MacLochlainn, TD; Councillor Jack Murray; Cllr Fionan Bradley; Finn Harps’ Kevin Jordan and former Hearts players Rachel Doherty (Derry City FC), Jack Davis (Finn Harps), Bria McGilloway (Derry City FC), Kevin Jordan (Finn Harps), and Jack McGeough (Derry City FC).
