Parents call for safe crossing points at St Mura's NS in Tooban

The main road between Derry and Buncrana runs past the entrance to St Mura's National School

Parents of children attending St Mura's National School in Tooban have called for safe crossing points to be put in place on the road outside the school.

Concerns about road safety issues at the school on the R238 between Derry and Buncrana have been raised in recent years.

Local councillor Jack Murray said that with children returning to school he has been contacted “once again” by parents stressing the need for safe crossing points at the school.

“This is an issue that I've repeatedly raised within the council and will continue to do so until it's resolved,” he said.

“Possible funding streams are being explored and I'm hopeful that we can get the necessary work done.”

He said the road outside the school will remain a priority until it is made safe.

“The school is located on one of the busiest roads in Donegal - the main thoroughfare between Buncrana and Derry - and is situated across from a busy car park and shop. It's vital that it's made as safe as possible for kids and road users alike.”
