On Wednesday September 11 there will be a meeting to establish a town team in Buncrana
There will be a drop-in event to establish the extent of interest in membership of the Buncrana Town Team on Wednesday September 11, 2024 from 3pm to 6pm in St. Mary’s Hall, Buncrana. People can attend at any stage during these times.
This initiative has come out from the Department of Rural and Community Development. Under the policy from the Department, every town that avails of support, should have a town team. In every town team they want representatives from the community such as Councillors, residents, business owners, charities, voluntary organisations, community groups, sports clubs, schools, educational institutions, local development sectors and they can be anybody and everybody who has a say in the town. They want a selection of people from all those various sectors.
The council is the driving force behind it. The council received funding from the department of €10,000. That was allocated to Creeslough, Buncrana, Ballybofey and Stranorlar to build these town teams and get them up and off the ground.
Currently there is no time limit on how long it will take to implement a town team.
“Hopefully there’ll be a huge interest in it and a lot of people will come to St Mary’s Hall” Councillor Fionán Bradley told Donegallive.
“I dare say if no one attends, the thing might not get up and running. It is vitally important that as many people as possible come, even to find out more about it, the process. The more people involved the better the project will be.”
