Inishowen-born historian Dr Angela Byrne has given two talks in the peninsula on Donegal’s connections with the Russian Empire.

The talks in Buncrana and Carndonagh libraries  discussed how the county’s international trade links brought it into contact with the world’s largest land empire.

Dr Byrne is the author of Anarchy and Authority: Irish Encounters with Romanov Russia. She is a historian of women, migration, and travel and exploration in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries and has published widely on these topics

Titled Redcastle to Red Square, the talks focused on the Irish women who went in search of adventure or employment, for love or for political causes.
