Cllr Michael Boyle asks for clarification on Bridge Street at Donegal MD meeting

Area Manager for Roads and Transportation, Mark Sweeney, told Donegal Municipal District Councillors that Bridge Street in Killybegs may need to be temporarily closed to complete flood protection measures.

At the Donegal MD’s September meeting, Fine Gael’s Cllr Michael Boyle asked Sweeney for a “clarification on Bridge Street, on the flood protection measures.”

Bridge Street was the scene of flooding in Killybegs in November 2024, and during a visit by Minister Kevin ‘Boxer’ Moran in February of this year, the Minister of State for the Office of Public Works told residents that short-term fixes would be carried out while a flood mitigation project was being processed.

Sweeney replied: “We have one valve to fit, but it is complicated and might need to close off Bridge Street to do it.

“Apart from that, we have done all the work on the Advanced Scheme. It is awkward work to get done, but we are working on it.
