A pair of goals in each half made the difference as Glenswilly got their first win in the Under-21 A Championship against rivals Termon in Páirc Naomh Columba.

The Glen men had a great start with an early Matthew Enright goal, and when Paul Mullen hit the net, it helped them into a 2-5 to 0-7 lead at the break.

Pauric Devine got a third goal to put them seven ahead, but an own goal left three in it with just over a quarter of an hour to go.

But Glenswilly hit a fourth goal soon after as Enright struck again to get their first win after losing out to Four Masters on the first week, while Termon also have one win from the previous weekend after beating Gaoth Dobhair.

Termon got the first score through a John Cannon point, but Glenswilly hit the net on three minutes as a long ball was kicked into Enright, who palmed it down to the ground and finished soccer-style.

Oisin McGrenra added two further points from out on the left as John Cannon and John James Sweeney pointed at the other end, while Fionn McGrenra had a shot at goal blocked.

Glenswilly had the ball in the net again through Eoghan Scott, but he was adjudged to have been in the square when Paddy Ward punched for goal.

Pauric Devine and a Ciaran Cassidy two-point free followed next, as Enright capitalised on a loose pass and again shot from off the ground but this time Ronan Harkin saved.

But they did get a second goal as McGrenra did well to find Mullen, who finished low into the net.

Enright and Shane Tinney (free) added scores, but the impressive Shea Boyle kicked two points before the break to leave four in it.

Enright got things going again after the break with a point, but Cannon and a Boyle free helped close the gap to six.

But Glenswilly struck for a third goal soon after following a bit of pinball in the large rectangle, with Devine firing into the bottom corner.

Tinney (free) and Sweeney traded scores, but Termon got a goal back as Patrick Fegan fired a high ball in and, with Boyle putting Mikey Toner under pressure, the ball ricocheted twice and into the net.

That left three in it, but it didn’t last for long, first a McGrenra point, before the resulting kickout went to Mullen and he played in Enright, who kicked the ball into the ground and it bounced in.

The final quarter saw Termon press for goals, as Glenswilly defended admirably, and a Fegan goal was disallowed for a square ball.

McGrenra kicked a two-pointer, and Devine and Eoghan Scott (free) added more gloss to the scoreline, as Termon almost got another goal through Cassidy but Devine got back well to block as Glenswilly deservedly took the win.
