Glasgow native Mark Ramsay has been a season ticket holder for 30 years and wanted to undertake the challenge to raise funds for Celtic FC Foundation
Mark Ramsay and Santiago Selaro will set off on a 100-mile walk in aid of Celtic FC Foundation.
Together they plan to set off from Market Square, Letterkenny on the morning of Monday, September 8 and arrive at the Brother Walfrid statue, Ballymote, County Sligo in the afternoon of Friday, September 12. The journey will take them through Ballybofey, Donegal Town, Bundoran and Sligo Town.
The supporters decided to undertake the five-day challenge to fundraise for Celtic FC Foundation and pay tribute to the sculpture which commemorates Brother Walfrid, Celtic’s founder, who travelled from Ireland to Scotland.
"Brother Walfrid is the reason we have a football club to support and the opportunity to pay tribute to someone of his significance in the club’s history, coupled with the charitable aspect, makes this challenge both exciting and worthwhile,” Mark told DonegalLive.
Mark hails from Glasgow and Santiago is originally from Argentina but lives in Barcelona, Spain. The pair have decided to set off from Letterkenny because of its location and it is Donegal’s largest town. “My ancestry is from County Donegal and there is a huge Celtic following in that part of Ireland. There are also a lot of fans here in Scotland with strong Donegal connections.
“Letterkenny seemed the perfect place, due to its distance from the final destination and due to its size,” Mark told DonegalLive. “All monies raised are going to the Foundation. We know about the fantastic work that Celtic FC Foundation does here in Scotland, Ireland and in various other locations, so Santiago and I are thrilled to play a small part in helping the Foundation to continue with such endeavours.
“I have followed the work of the foundation for many years, and it’s something we are passionate about. In the past, I have helped with Bucket Collections on match days and other events such as the Santa Stroll. It’s a fantastic organisation. We hope to raise as much as possible to help others but also to encourage others to get involved, as well as raise awareness of the great work of the Foundation.”
