This one-day event will bring together ATU, the Health Service Executive (HSE), the Ladies Gaelic Football Association G4M&O (Gaelic for Mothers & Others) programme, and St. Eunan’s LGFA, combining expertise from across the region to champion and support women’s health.

The Department of Nursing and Health Care at Atlantic Technological University (ATU), Donegal Letterkenny Campus, launched Fit Féile: Game On for Women’s Health Festival. The initiative is designed to create an inclusive, empowering and enjoyable environment where women feel confident to prioritise their health and participate in physical activity. By encouraging social connection and promoting both physical and mental well-being, the event seeks to deliver a meaningful and lasting impact for women across the North West.
“Fit Féile is about bringing women together in a positive and supportive space where health information, physical activity and community connection come together,” Dr Louise McBride, Head of Department Nursing and Healthcare at ATU, said. “By working collaboratively across healthcare, education and sport, we are helping women feel informed, confident and empowered to take charge of their wellbeing.”
This collaborative initiative marks the first event of its kind in the North West, uniting key stakeholders from healthcare, higher education and sport with a shared commitment to advancing women’s health and wellbeing in the region.
“This festival creates a welcoming space where women can access trusted health information, connect with others, and feel supported to take small but meaningful steps towards improving their overall wellbeing,” Elaine Walsh, Lecturer in Nursing at ATU, said.
While team registration has now closed, members of the public are invited to attend on the day to support the teams and enjoy the festival atmosphere.
The Women’s Health and Wellbeing expert talks are open to the public, and those wishing to attend can register here.
