A plaque commemorating the Swimming Pool Committee – instrumental in the development of the old Letterkenny Leisure Centre – will be pulled out of the archives and erected at the Aura Leisure Complex.
The plaque bears the names of those whose tireless fundraising endeavours were vital in the development of the pool at High Road.
Letterkenny courthouse now sits on the site of the old pool, which was demolished in 2010.
Community and history enthusiast Colm McDaid called for the plaque to be resurrected earlier this month.
His father, Stephen McDaid, along with former Councillor Victor Fisher and Frank Gallagher are the only three from the committee still alive.
This week, members of the Letterkenny-Milford Municipal District voted in favour of motions, tabled by Councillors Jimmy Kavanagh and Kevin Bradley on the matter.
“It was removed when the old pool closed down, but we should have it back on display,” Councillor Kavanagh said.
“I think it would b a tremendous job to bring it to light again,” Councillor Bradley said.
Councillor Ciaran Brogan confirmed to the meeting that the plaque is 'in safe hands' in the County Museum.
Donegal County Council says it will liaise with its relevant section to seek the erection of the plaque in a prominent area within the Aura Leisure Centre.
