The Polestar.
An appeal has been issued for a voluntary contractor who can help illuminate the Polestar for this year's Darkness Into Light.
This year's event will be the 10th to be held in Letterkenny. The first walk took place in 2009 at the Phoenix Park in Dublin.
There will be 13 walks across Donegal on May 6 next. Over 150,000 people will take part in Darkness Into Light events in Ireland to raise money for Pieta House.
Letterkenny-based Councillor Jimmy Kavanagh has proposed that the Council light the Polestar yellow or Orange on the morning of the event.
At this month's meeting of the Letterkenny-Milford Municipal District, Councillor Donal Coyle seconded the motion from Councillor Kavanagh.
Due to budgetary conditions, Donegal Council Council Council say it is not in a position to budget for such works.
“If funding becomes available or any group wishes to make the necessary arrangements for the erection of these lights Donegal County Council will facilitate this,” the local authority said.
“In the past, permission has been given to groups to install additional temporary lighting to effectively change the colour of the Polestar.
“They are conditioned to employ a registered contractor with the adequate insurances to carry out the work.”
