A sign depicting the former Letterkenny town corn market is to be restored.

The sign, which read, ‘Letterkenny Market 1852’, was located on a wall at Lower Main Street, but was painted over a couple of years ago.

Councillor Jimmy Kavanagh tabled a motion to the Letterkenny-Milford Municipal District asking that the sign be returned.

Donegal County Council says it will approach local groups in order to arrange this.

The boundary wall associated with the corn market is located on the Main Street.

The plaque depicted the year, 1852, of erection.

Letterkenny was an important regional market town during the mid-to-late 19th century.
