The official opening of Linear Park in Letterkenny is the first in a series of steps in the LK Green Connect scheme.
Cllr Liam Blaney, Cathaoirleach of Donegal County Council, performed the duties in Letterkenny, with the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Charlie McConalogue TD and Cllr Kevin Bradley, Mayor of the Letterkenny-Milford Municipal District in attendance.

The Linear Park scheme is the first phase of the greater LK Green Connect scheme, located between the Letterkenny PSC, Neil T Blaney Road to the Isle Burn.
This scheme provides 230 metres of new footpaths and cycleway infrastructure in a landscaped environment and is jointly funded by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage under the Urban Regeneration and Development Fund and Donegal County Council.
The Linear Park scheme is part of the wider Letterkenny 2040 Project which has secured funding of over €20 million, over five sub-elements - The Cathedral Quarter-Making a Creative District; Enabling Renewal at Lower Main Street; Revival at the Courthouse; Enabling a Regional Transport Hub and LK Green Connect.
“Linear Park is a leading example of high-quality dedicated facilities for cyclists and pedestrians, that is to be welcomed in these times with the increasing focus on modal shift to walking and cycling, and a low carbon climate resilient society,” Cllr Blaney said.

He welcomed the recent launch of the Letterkenny 2040 Regeneration Strategy, stating that it “shows the real and exciting opportunity that exits to transform Letterkenny Town Centre and strengthen it as a competitive Regional Centre”.
The Mayor of the Letterkenny-Milford Municipal District, Cllr Kevin Brandley added: “Linear Park will be an important strategic link in the Letterkenny Area, and the section being officially opened today will give an understanding of the quality infrastructure we can expect from the overall completed scheme, and the benefits it will bring to the people of Letterkenny and surrounding areas.“
This phase of the Scheme was constructed by ACS Civils Ltd, who have also recently completed the Letterkenny Cathedral One-Way Project.
