Gerry McKeever recently organised a quiz in Letterkenny to remember his good friend Kieran McGrath, who was a teammate of his for many years on the local quiz circuit.

Gerry would like to thank all of those who turned up on the night at the Station House Hotel in Letterkenny. Kieran McGrath passed away last year and as well as having success locally at quizzes, was Letterkenny Rovers PRO.

“We had 41 tables and between donations, the raffle and the entry fee we have gathered €3,954, Gerry said. “Our charities, Pieta House and Sheephaven Rescue and Recovery will each receive €1,977. Thanks to all who contributed.

“Thanks to Brian Gallagher, Christine and Shilo at The Station House Hotel, local media for publicising the quiz and also to Eric White and those from Letterkenny Rovers for correcting and scoring on the night and for their input while organising the quiz.

“A special word must go to our sponsors.  Many did not need to be approached but just left donations with us, in no particular order, The Station House Hotel, The Bridge Bar, Matt McGee, Charlie's Cafe, The Quiet Moment, Sally Supplies, Deirdre and Martin Crossann, Bregeen McGrath, O Hehir’s Bakery, The Value Centre, Gérard and Linda Grant, Kevin Rafferty, McGinleys Bar, Letterkenny Golf Club, Dr Jarleth Duffy, Century Cinema, Tinneys  Coal and Oil, Gerrys Barbers, Don and Maureen Ponsonby and Highland Bakery.  Finally, thanks to the many people who left cash donations, too many to name.

“We are counting on similar support next year, where. We will be looking  for over 50 tables because unfortunately, our need for Pieta House and Sheephaven Rescue and Recovery will not diminish.” The quiz was won by ‘Jimmy’s Winning Quizzes,’ who were the first recipients of the Kieran McGrath Memorial Shield.
