Maura McNicholl with pupils from Scoil Mhuire gan Smal, with Active School Co-Ordinator AnnMarie Mailey and Kieran Mc Taggart, Director of the Donegal Education Support Centre
The Donegal Education Support Centre has announced that Ms Maura McNicholl is the new Active School Accreditor and will be responsible for the awarding of the active flag to primary schools in Donegal.
The Active School Flag is a Department of Education and Skills initiative which recognises schools that strive to achieve a physically educated and physically active school community, by awarding them with the Active School Flag (ASF).
The programme is run in collaboration with the Donegal Education Support Centre and it encourages all schools to evaluate their current provision of P.E. and extracurricular sports activities for the children and increases parents’ awareness of facilities, teams and clubs in our area. This is a non-competitive initiative highlighting the importance of physical activity and sport in schools and communities in which they are based.
