A man has appeared at Letterkenny District Court charged with three counts of money laundering

Kazeem Balogun, with an address at Meadowbank Park in Letterkenny, appeared before Judge Eiteain Cunningham.

The 24-year-old is charged under Section 7 of the Criminal Justice (Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing) Act of 2010.

He is charged that he did conspire with an unknown person to convert, transfer, handle, acquire or possess property being the proceeds of criminal conduct through an Allied Irish Bank Account.

The three charges apply to two different dates including December 26, 2019 and December 28, 2019.

Garda Gillian Page gave evidence of arrest, charge and caution of Balogun who is currently in custody.

Garda Sergeant Maurice Doyle told the court that the Director of Public Prosecutions has sent the accused forward for trial to the next sitting of Letterkenny Circuit Court commencing on April 23.

Solicitor for the accused, Mr Rory O'Brien, requested two legal counsel "in light of the allegations."
