Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign to screen 'Freedom To Run' in Milford

'Freedom To Run' shows the reality of life under occupation in Palestine through the lens of marathon running.

Milford & District Resource Centre, in partnership with the Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign (Donegal Branch) will host a screening of the film 'Freedom to Run' in The Gallowglass Community Centre (F92 CD51), Milford on Friday, May 3, at 7:30pm.

All money raised will go to the charity, Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP). Palestinians in the West Bank cannot move more than 10 kilometres without being stopped by Israeli restrictions. Checkpoints, demands for permits, and the apartheid wall surrounding the occupied territories are part of the struggle of daily life.

Freedom to Run is a feature-length documentary that follows the Palestinian running group ‘Right to Movement’ and a group from Glasgow as they train for and run, both the Palestine and Edinburgh marathons.

Whilst in Palestine, the Scottish runners learn about the impact of the restrictions on everyday life, and that something as universal as running is far from an easy task. The runners discover that they are not so different, but that they live very different lives. The film was made by Glaswegian filmmakers Dr Cairsti Russell and Stephen Sheriff.

MAP provides immediate medical aid to Palestinians in need at times of crisis, while also developing local capacity and skills to ensure the long-term development of the Palestinian healthcare system. Join us for a night of film, discussion, Palestinian food and solidarity, while raising much-needed funds for Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP).
