The Donegal Centre for Independent Living (DCIL) today unveiled a seat in memory of the late Frank Larkin at Letterkenny Town Park.

Pauline Larkin was present to cut the ribbon in memory of her late husband, who died in 2020 aged 48. A hugely popular and much-loved member of the community, Frank had lived all his life with Spina Bifida and was an inspiration to so many.

“A lovely event in the town park today with DCIL unveiling a seat in memory of the late Frank Larkin,” Fine Gael councillor Jimmy Kavanagh posted.

“Frank was a great advocate for people with disabilities, and dedicated so much of his life to making improvements. He also had a huge interest in his local community, in sport and in politics and in the town of Letterkenny.

“Pauline keeps his memory alive on a daily basis and it was great that she was there today to cut the ribbon and to pay her own special tribute to her late husband. The seat can now be a place of solace for her and for the Larkin family and for Frank’s many friends.

“A quiet spot in a busy park, where a moment can be taken to remember Frank, or where a stranger can sit to rest and ask who was Frank Larkin? And each time that question is asked his memory will be revived recalled and will live on.”

Married to Pauline, he was a long-time campaigner for disability awareness. Through his work with Donegal Centre for Independent Living, Frank was involved in a host of different projects both at home and abroad. He also delivered their Schools Awareness Programme to Transition Year students all over Donegal. He volunteered with Spina Bifida Hydrocephalus Ireland both locally and nationally.
