The driver was pulled aside after being caught doing a speed of 112km/h in an 80km/h zone on the R250 at Conwal.

The Road Policing operation began at 7am on Thursday morning and gardaí are out detecting poor driving behaviours such as driving above the speed limit as part of the operation. So far, almost 125,317 vehicles have been checked for speeding. One motorist clocked 186km/h in a 100km/h zone on the N24 at Tibberaghny, Piltown, Kilkenny.

It is positive that the majority of motorists are travelling within the designated speed, however, 440 drivers have been detected and some have been especially dangerous,” An Garda Siochana said. “Remember to please slow down and drive safely today and every day. An Garda Síochána continues to monitor and conduct checkpoints on our roads, using our technology to detect those speeding nationwide.”
