Traffic in Letterkenny has been described as “utter chaos.”

With the Christmas rush and many people just finishing up work today, motorists faced huge delays with traffic streaming into the town from all directions.

“Traffic in and around Letterkenny was at a standstill today as it has been leading up to a very busy festive season,” Christy Galligan, a retired Garda Sergeant, said. “It was utter gridlock on the main arteries leading into town. One can only call it utter chaos.

“Excessive overuse of traffic lights at the Polestar and at Pearse Road, Dr McGinley Road has not helped to alleviate a worsening situation. Relief roads that should have been a priority in and around the town decades ago have only been planned for now. Who will call out those in charge of this ongoing failure to act? Ba humbug is, I'm sure, how many felt today.”
