Climate Action Expo 2026 will showcase the wide range of climate actions, projects and initiatives taking place across Donegal

A major event showcasing the wide range of climate actions, projects and initiatives across Donegal is taking place in Letterkenny as part of Climate Action Week 2026.

Donegal County Council is inviting members of the public, community groups, schools, businesses and stakeholders to attend the Climate Action Expo 2026 on Monday, October 12 from 11.00am to 8.00pm at the Aura Leisure Centre, Letterkenny.

Themed Local Actions - Lasting Impact, the free public drop-in event will showcase the positive climate actions taking place across Letterkenny and County Donegal through exhibitions, information stands, workshops and presentations led by Donegal County Council, local schools, community groups and partner organisations.

Visitors will have the opportunity to learn more about a range of climate-related initiatives including sustainable travel, roads infrastructure, regeneration, energy and retrofit, biodiversity, circular economy and sustainable food.

Activities will take place throughout the day. The event will conclude with a keynote address by Claire Irwin from RTÉ's Room to Improve, who will share practical insights into home energy efficiency and retrofit solutions.

Cathaoirleach of Donegal County Council, Cllr. Gary Doherty, said: “Climate Action Week is an opportunity to showcase the positive work already happening across Donegal and to inspire even more people to get involved. I encourage everyone to visit this event and see how communities, schools and organisations are helping to shape a more sustainable future.”

Chief executive of Donegal County Council, John G McLaughlin, said: “Climate action is most effective when we work together. This event will highlight practical projects already making a difference across Donegal and show how simple actions by individuals, communities and organisations can contribute to a more climate-resilient future.”

Donegal County Council says it is committed to advancing climate action at local level through the implementation of the Donegal County Council Climate Action Plan 2024-2029.

The Climate Action Expo will provide an important opportunity to highlight projects and initiatives that are helping to reduce emissions, enhance biodiversity, improve energy efficiency and build resilience across the county.

Further details, including the full programme of events and participating organisations, will be announced in the coming weeks.

While the event will operate as a free public drop-in throughout the day, attendees wishing to attend the evening keynote addresses, including the address by Claire Irwin, are encouraged to register in advance through Eventbrite. Registration details will be released shortly.
