An initiative in east Donegal has been launched, encouraging parishioners to donate food, which will be passed on to the Letterkenny Food Bank.

The Ordained Local Minister for the Taughboyne Group, Rev Sean McClafferty, launched a month-long project encouraging members of his congregations to "Think outside our walls".

“Throughout this month, before each service in the group's churches, parishioners from All Saints in Newtowncunningham, Craigadooish and Killea are being invited to bring donations of non-perishable foodstuffs such as tinned fruit, soup, packets of rice and pasta, and place them in food donation boxes which will be donated to the Letterkenny Food Bank,” the Diocese of Derry and Raphoe posted.

Rev McClafferty added: "For many in our communities, the month of January is met with dread after the Christmas period. Money can be in short supply after the festive season and the New Year brings anxiety, dread and worry due to financial difficulties.

"This is a practical and accessible way of helping others and I encourage those from other parishes to get in touch with us if they wish to assist us."

“It’s easy to look constantly to ourselves, and suggests we need to follow the giving and caring example of Jesus as he looked to the needs of others.”

All foodstuffs will be presented to Letterkenny Food Bank at the beginning of February. If you feel you can help or wish to get involved, please get in touch with Rev McClafferty on 085-8068057.
