Slieve League, Harvey’s Point and Wild Atlantic Camp get travel award top 10s

'Sliabh Liag is one of Ireland’s most spectacular spots, with hikes via the access road to the Bunglass viewpoint, or the inland Pilgrims’ Path'

Some of Donegal’s best - Sliabh Liag, Harvey’s Point and Wild Atlantic Camp - have all got top 10 places in their respective categories in the Irish Independent’s Reader Travel Awards.

Ireland’s Top 10 walks for 2023 saw Slieve League come in eighth place, with its description reading: “Amazing views; good stamina required but worth it. Slieve League is one of Ireland’s most spectacular spots, with hikes via the access road to the Bunglass viewpoint, or the inland Pilgrims’ Path (the two can also be combined into a much longer loop over One Man’s Pass, but this is for very experienced hikers only).

“Rugged views”, “very sensitively developed” and “not over-commercialised”, you said, walking in this part of the world brings you “close to the power of nature”.

Harvey’s Point, Donegal, came fifth in the Top Hotels category, due to "Luxury, attention to detail, and a laidback manner that adds to a relaxing stay. Service, food and rooms are always A1.”

The Wild Atlantic Camp in Creeslough was last year’s winner in the ‘Ireland’s Best Camping or Glamping Site’ and this year made another top 10 finish in seventh.

“We are so honoured that Wild Atlantic Camp Creeslough has once again been awarded as one of Ireland’s 10 Best Campsites and Glamping Destinations for 2023 in the Irish Independent.ie Travel Reader Travel Awards,” read a post from the camp. “This Award means so much to us and we would like to extend a huge thank you to our Creeslough Community who are at the heart and soul of everything that we do here.”

Donegal came fifth in the Top Holiday Destinations, with Killarney, Co Kerry, the winner and surprisingly, Donegal did not have a beach in the Best Beaches category.
